He came out to his mother four years ago, after repeatedly denying his sexuality when she asked. "She kept saying, 'Are you gay? Are you gay?' and so finally I admitted it," he says. "She's not very happy about it, so we don't talk about it very much. But we are very close otherwise." The same is not true of his father, who "doesn't know anything," says Grisha. "And I'm certainly not going to tell him. He would not take it well."
