St. Petersburg Gay Parents: Milonov's Law pushing children to suicide

"Parent's love doesn't depend on children's sexual orientation!!!" - Parents' Committee rallying in support of LGBT citizens
Parents of gays and lesbians in St. Petersburg are opposing the homophobic legislative initiatives of deputy Vitaly Milonov. This bill, supported by the party "United Russia", according to parents, will deprive young people of necessary information about details of sexual development and will lead to an increase in the number of suicides.

This february members of the "Parents' Club", that had been established in the LGBT organization "Exit", made several statements. Parents of gays and lesbians are not hiding their names. They come out with slogans to a protest rally to support not only their children... Have a listen to what they say!

NATALIA MITROFANOVA

When the daughter told me that she understood her sexuality at age 11, I thought, 'Oh, my God! She's been concealing this for so long, not knowing exactly that homosexuality is natural! " She had no one to explain it, she had been living a childhood double life, full of fears and complexes! While you should learn, socialize, enjoy his youth and life! I wish schools, and other children's and medical institutions educated about sexual matters and education in the family! I and other parents would have been able to understand and help our children in the right time, themselves, communicating with the environment of friends, family and the society - that is, live a happy life! I believe that all people are equal and have equal human dignity... Thanks to the accurate and timely provided psychological care, I and Valerie have avoided the huge problems with health and lifestyle.

MARINA MELNIK

Please understand, awareness of one's sexuality doesn't come at 18 years, but much earlier.

My son used to say he knew he was homosexual at 13. Where do these children to go? 5-7% of youth is homosexual, it's statistics. Prevalent among gay teenagers are large number of suicides and suicide attempts, nearly 30%. This law will increase this number, it is logic. Teens, shocked by opening of their homosexuality, will be forced to withdraw, acquire neuroses knowing that they are not equal "to everyone else." They will be afraid to admit it to anyone. And this is the minimal damage that will be brought by a law aimed at protecting the rights and morals of minors.

How many people will grow up mutilated and how many seriously injured?

ELENA MUSOLINA

Imagine the despair of a boy or a girl having discovered a gay or a lesbian in themselves: they were told that this is terrible, these people are frowned upon and rejected by the society - from now on they will be outcasts, and they have no one to share, and no place to get advice, because fellows would laugh at them (and this would be in the best case, most likely - would bait), while parents usually get alienated at this difficult time of growing up. As long as homosexuality is presented as a perversion and this position is fueled by officials, such adolescents are at risk precisely due to the lack of information. No one is trying to tell young people that homosexuality is better, and even less so - to urge them to be like that. We just want to tell them now that if this happened to you (to be in the nature pre-defined 4%), then do not despair, do not do the fatal move, step back from the edge of the roof, do not collect a lethal dose of pills. Please understand: your life is not over, you have the same rights to happiness, like others, and you can be loved and loving.

NINA SOZAYEVA

People should not be daunted at the homosexual matter, and should be educated, since gays, lesbians, bisexuals are people too, they have a right to be themselves and be productive members of society.

We are in the twenty-first century now and we have international scientific organizations providing unambiguous explanation of the phenomena under discussion.

This information should be made available to children in Russia and their parents.

I was offended when my son was equated to a pedophile by the law, homosexuality - is a kind of a norm, and pedophilia - is a disease.
