Rainbow NewsPatriarch Aleksei II spoke out against gay marriage, calling homosexuality "the sin of a godless world"
9 Sep. 2004
This opinion was voiced in the interview with the Italian newspaper "Corriere della Sera"; the main topic of the interview was the "aggressive proselitism" of Western Christian churches within the jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Aleksei II asserted that "a significant part of the Protestant world is rapidly losing its Christian values, they are replacing evangelical values with secular ones [...], they support abortion, divorce, gay marriage and they even appoint openly gay ministers."
"I want to say to these Christians: brothers, come to your senses! We can’t indulge in the sins of a godless world", said Patriarch Aleksei.
