Rainbow NewsMetropolitan Kirill: The Russian Orthodox Church is for human rights without homosexuality
18 Oct. 2005
Smolensk and Kaliningrad Metropolitan Kirill (Gundyaeev)
2005/10/16. The Moscow patriarchy distributed the text of the speech of Smolensk and Kaliningrad Metropolitan Kirill (Gundyaeev) at the conference "Religion in the contemporary system of international relations," which was conducted in St. Petersburg.
The church hierarch announced that the notion of human rights in contemporary western society does not fit into the system of moral values of Christianity.
"The philosophy of human rights is used quite often in order to justify deviations from moral norms such as the cult of violence, profits and consumption, abortions, homosexuality, euthanasia and others...," said the Metropolitan.
He insists that the important contribution of Russia in the development and realization of the concept of human rights can be the introduction of a moral beginning to the important political and philosophical paradigm of contemporary international relations.
