Rainbow NewsRussian Human Rights Plenipotentiary Report: Not a Single Word about Gays or Lesbians
25 Apr. 2006
Vladimir Lukin
2006/04/25. Russian Federation Human Rights Plenipotentiary, Vladimir Lukin, has accounted for his efforts for the year 2005. In his report, which appeared in media circulation only last night even though it has been prepared since February 2006, did not contain a single word about the rights of sexual minorities.
This subject, as well any discussion of citizens' private lives, fell completely out of the Russian ombudsman's sight. And this at a moment when calls for violence against gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transsexuals have been heard from the lips of everyone from politicians and religious figures to nationalists and xenophobes.
