According to statistics given by Gennadi Onishenko, head of the State Sanitary Department, in Russia, during the first 8 months of 2007, 28,974 new HIV+ cases were registered (accorfing to Medportal.Ru). This is 12% more than those recorded in the same period during the previous year.
The highest number of HIV+ cases was recorded in Saint Petersburg 33,688 followed by the Sverdlovskaya region with 32,064, the Moscow region with 30,369 and in Moscow 28,807.
There are now 390,365 recorded HIV+ cases in Russia.
The Department also mentioned that more people are stopping treatment. In Russia more than 10% of HIV+ cases which started antivirus treatment have ceased for various reasons whereas world figures are at 7-8%.
