Gays and lesbians can work in Ukrainian schools. Mr. Svyatoslav Sheremet, head of the Ukrainian Gay-Forum has recently received the corresponding official confirmation of this fact from the Ministry of Education of Ukraine. Although the ban for homosexuals to work in schools had already been lifted ten years before, but until now there was no any official confirmation of this fact. The Directive of the Ukrainian Ministry of Education "On improvement of the educational work" that imposed a ban for gays and lesbians to work in educational institutions was in force since 1995 until 1998.
"So, the LGBT movement in Ukraine and the public have unexpectedly learned that this ban for open gay people to teach children and adolescents was no longer valid for more than ten years",- points Gay-Forum. "Moreover, - says Mr.Sheremet, today there are already open gay people among teachers and lecturers".
"Of course sexual orientation of gay teachers does not affect in any case the quality of the education itself. The above mentioned anti-gay Directive was "a throw-back of perverted pedagogics",- stresses Mr.Sheremet. The Head of Gay-Forum is confident that any professional with adequate behavior and healthy psychics is able to teach successfully. "Sexual orientation can't serve as a criterion for somebody's admission to certain activities".
