The European Court of Human Rights stated that the issue of legalizing of same-sex marriages in the Russian Federation was a domestic case. The Court considered Mr.Murzin's complaint "unacceptable" because it did not meet the requirements of the article 34 and 35 of the UN Convention on Human Rights. (N.B.: Mr. Murzin is an ex-deputy of the Bashkirian Parliament and he is straight).
We would remind you that in January 2005 Eduard Murzin and Ed Mishin (the Chief-Editor of the gay magazine "The Kvir" (Queer) tried to register same-sex marriage in Butyrsky Registry Office (ZAGS) of Moscow. This action was aimed to fight the discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation of a person.
Having done all necessary actions and procedures needed under the National Law in Russian Courts, Mr.Murzin has filed a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights. Moreover, while being a deputy in the Bashkirian Parliament he for several times has tried to bring in a bill on same-sex marriages and partnership but all these bills were dismissed by the majority.
