Russian week against homophobia (RWAHO) follows the line of annual enlightenment actions set by the European Week Against Homophobia (EWAHO) in March 2007. This year RWAHO's motto is "2009 year: in tribute to the memory of gays and lesbians who fell victims of political repressions".
"A Week against homophobia" is a peculiar (condensed in time) attempt to attract everybody's attention to the issue of homophobia and its threats to the society in general. WAHO is a good opportunity to give an adequate response to gay-hate statements by establishing hate and discrimination free space for the people.
RWAHO's activities will be taking place throughout all Russia: in Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Arkhangelsk, Tyumen, Omsk, Chelyabinsk, Kemerovo, Krasnoyarsk, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Khabarovsk, Naberezhnye Chelny and other Russian cities.
During these days different actions under the chairmanship of the Interregional Public Movement "Russian LGBT Network" aimed at overcoming gay-hate public mood are scheduled to be on the agenda, such as: seminars, "round-tables", discussion boards, film shows, information and other activities.
