LGBT activists are preparing to host the first Queer Summer Camp near the city of Kosov in the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast in Ukraine. Dozens of gays and lesbians will gather from the 18th to the 23rd of August in the picturesque setting of the Carpathian Mountains.
The goal of the camp, an idea which emerged from the leaders of the social organization "Insight," is to unite and strengthen the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual community, break down stereotypes and popularize a healthy lifestyle.
Besides the numerous entertainment activities, included in the camp’s program there are trainings, master classes, games, art workshops, discourses, and self-defense seminars.
The camp will be held with the financial support of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the organization COC Netherlands in the framework of the project PRECIS: "The expansion of the potential of the individual in the CIS: in response to the epidemic of HIV/AIDS among sexual minorities."
