One of the only possible forms of social activism available for gay Kazakh activists is to promote education of safe sex among the MSM population.
This summer the community-based organization "Adali," using its internal resources, hosted a two-day seminar in the city of Astana to educate volunteers of another community-based organization "Gender Queer." The topic of the seminar was "The idiosyncrasies of outreach work in prevention programs for HIV/AIDS among the MSM population."
At the end of each seminar, which were held in the Astana gay night club "Orion," the group discussed approaches to best reach the MSM population. Mini-trainings about safe sex were conducted using various games. More detailed instruction will continue throughout the summer in several gay-popular cafes around the city.
Although the young organization "Gender Queer" is not yet a grantee of the Global Fund, it nonetheless works closely with the Astana City AIDS Center, remarked portal Gay.kz.
