Ukrainian LGBT NGO presented its amendments to the draft decree on transsexuals

Since 2008 the Ministry for Health of Ukraine is still working on a new decree on procedure on “sex correction”. Its endorsement slowed down and only in November 2009 the new draft was published on the official Internet site of that state body, responsible for health.

Although the representatives of the Ministry for Health of Ukraine promised to make the decree more “democratic” than the previous one, there are still just a few changes made – the age is lowered from 25 to 20 years (to make an operation), the danger of suicide is deleted from indications for transsex operation and the state body that is responsible for giving permissions for transsex operations would be the Ukrainian Study and Research Institute of Social and Forensic Psychiatry and Narcology.

“Insight” LGBT group has prepared some amendments (open for the public access and comments on its Internet site) to this draft aimed on its harmonization with the international legal and medical standards.
