Constantine Yablotsky, Andrei Mazaev and Victor Romanov and several other members of LGBT associations, have just announced the foundation of the Russian LGBT sport federation. According to the organization's website, it is now undergoing the official registration process.
Despite the formal registration process, the LGBT sport federation has already begun operation. One of the main tasks is to have the Russian team ready for the Summer Eurogames 2011, in Rotterdam. The activists plan to send the largest team in the queer-movement history to this event.
To those who are interested to join the federation, you can now fill out an application on its website (automatic translation here >>). "We are pleased to see everyone from all walks of life to support us in forming the LGBT movement, regardless of age, sexual orientation and the sport they represent." say the organizers of the federation.
Russians are actively participating in the international queer sport competition since the mid-2000's. One of the pioneers of the event is the team A-Mega from St-Peterburg. It has held in top places in basketball and volleyball games.
This year in the Gay Games in Cologne, there were 48 athletes in the Russian team. They competed in 8 sports and won 3 medals: 1 gold and 2 silver. They were all self-sponsored without any external fundings.
