"The issue of GLBT rights in Ukraine is continiously complicated", stated Alexander Zinchenkov, the active member of "Nash mir" ("Our World") GLBT human rights watchdog committee in Kiev during his press-conference, reports "Gazeta po-kievski" http://mycityua.com (automatic translation >>).
According to his words, the violation of GLBT rights by Ukrainian law-enforcement agencies is on top of the list. Its number is almost a half of all registered gay rights violations in the country.
"The most severe violation is the illegal collection of private data about GLBT people, e.g. taking of fingerprints and photos of almost every gay man detained by the police, provided that his sexual orientation is known by the policemen".
The gay rights watch-dog also noted that GLBT members rights on freedom and personal dignity, privacy, freedom of gatherings and speech were also broadly violated. "No peaceful gay action organized by GLBT organizations was done free of hurdle. Almost every action was hampered by agressive ultra-conservative organizations and/or groundlessly banned by the local authorities", stated Alexander Zinchenkov.
