On February 17th, 2011, Gays and lesbians of Ukrainian Transcarpathia merged into a public organisation called "Tema" (or Theme in English).
It was registered by the Transcarpathian Regional Office of the Department of Justice. As recognised by the project Inoy.at.ua, "Tema" became the 32th LGBT group legalised by the Ukrainian authorities (automatica translation here >>).
The Charter of the Ukrainian "Theme" indicates that participants of this public movement will seek to "achieve full civil equality and social comfort for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people." Amongst other goals are the "creation of appropriate conditions for comprehensive development and the social formation of personality, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity."
LGBT activists intend to make members of the Ukrainian queer community "politically and socially active members of civil society." Other aims are the fight against the AIDS epidemic, as well as the implementation and protection of interests of members of "Tema".
"Tema" has been created on the basis of the initial group of the same name, which had held a series of events in the Transcarpathian region since November last year.
