On May 29, "School of Feminism", an independent self-educational project for women, kicked off with its first meeting in Moscow. The program opened with the support of the Moscow lesbian movement activists. The Sakharov Center has provided a place for the program to meet.
The May 29th meeting began as a Russian style "literacy campaign" to familiarize participants with the various branches of feminism - liberal, radical, socialist, and lesbian. The project itself, its format and perspectives were discussed as well.
Olga Gert was the moderator of the meeting, a feminist and a scholar who is known well beyond the queer community; she has been editing and publishing "The Island" magazine for many years.
Meeting times are posted on the "School of Feminism" VKontakte page (the link is in Russian and may be unavailabe from abroad) and are available to anyone who registers with the community.
