Rainbow News"Our fight is stronger than fear ..." - Gay activists marched through the streets of Moscow
21 Jan. 2012
Anti-homophobic slogans were carried not only by LGBT activists
The slogan of gay activists, "Our struggle - stronger than fear, our love - is stronger than death!" became the leitmotif of a major anti-fascist action in Moscow, which was attended by 600 to 900 people, by various sources.
Gay activists with anti-homophobic posters were at the forefront of anti-fascist action in the evening of 19 January 2012. It was the "Rainbow Association" that initiated the appearance of representatives of the gay community in the column. Posters with pink triangles were saying - "Down with fascism, homophobia, sexism," "Gays and lesbians against fascism", "Our fight is stronger than fear, our love is stronger than death" and other things.
"January 19, we were greeted as equal - says about the campaign Paul Samburov, one of the leaders of the" Rainbow Association" in the blog "Antidogma" (automatic translation here >>). - Until we have found a sufficient number of activists, our posters with pink triangles were carried by people not linked to LGBT...". According to him, before the start of the rally there were attempts of attacks on gay activists. But the Nazi provocation failed, although a group of LGBT participants were able to gather only the end of the procession through the Tversky boulevard. Then the action continued on Pushkin Square.
"Rainbow Association" - a community of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgener (LGBT) people and their friends, exists in Moscow for over two years. This January only has seen dozens of the initiatives of the Association - from performance to self-help meeting groups.
For the first time the words about non-discrimination of gays and lesbians were published in the official statement of the Committee, "January 19", which became the outcome of yesterday's action. "... The possibility of our freedom is inextricably linked with the possibility of freedom for those who are not worthy of it by the opinion of Nazis: the freedom to workers, activists, the poor, sexual and religious minorities," - the document says.
