Rainbow News"Side by Side" queer movie festival in Moscow this year
25 Jan. 2012
The "Side by Side" queer movie festival's organizers recently have announced about their plan to stage it in Moscow for the first time in its five-year history.
"Moscow is no doubt a very important city and we will definitely go there...", some time in the past said Menni de Gouer, a member of the festival's organizing committee in her interview for the "Pinx". And she kept her promise. Earlier the "Side by Side" was staged in Novosibirsk, Arkhangelsk, Kemerovo and Tomsk. Saint-Petersburg is the home town of the "Rainbow" cinema forum.
"After the "Side by Side" grew stronger in the Northern Russian capital", tells Gulya Saltanova, "we have decided that we need to do more. Many people from different Russian cities wrote to us and invited us there, asking when the festival would arrive to their cities. We launched a contest among regional groups of activists that were ready to host the festival in their hometowns. The best proposals came from Novosibirsk, Kemerovo and Arkhangelsk. So we went there...".
In these five years the "Side by Side" has won its place among LGBT movie projects in other countries. In 2010 it was nominated with the honourable mention prize of the Berlinale and won the Teddy Award in the nomination for "contribution into the Russian LGBT movement's development".
The Moscow's LGBT community should not only be happy with a four day festival of the queer cinema but should be ready to support the project. A team of volunteers is being collected now, their first meeting was held in the middle of January. The queer-movie festival's organizing committee is open for your proposals at tanya@bok-o-bok.ru. Do not be shy, come and join us, tell us what YOU can do for it!
As a side note, in her recent interview Menni de Gouer expressed a hope that in the near future the Grand Prix of the Berlinale would go to Russia and it might happen in Moscow!
