Rainbow NewsThe Government of Moldova will block homophobic laws in the regions
24 Feb. 2012
The decision of the authorities of the northern capital of Moldavia Balti on the "total ban on promotion of non-traditional sexual orientation" would be "canceled in accordance with the law." This was said yesterday by representatives of the State Chancellery.
On the eve of Balti city declared a "zone of support for the Moldovan Orthodox Church." Gays and lesbians face public censure or deportation outside the region. This decision was dominated by clerics, "recognizing the special importance and the historical role of the Moldovan Orthodox Church, as one of the constituent institutions ... taking into account the traditional values of the Moldovan society, and incompatibility with modern democratic standards the imposition of aggressive sexual behavior, that is characteristic of a very small proportion of the population, carrying full responsibility for the security (including ethical and moral) of people of Balti."
As a side note, the Moldovan government is trying to resist the pressure of the Orthodox Church, whose leaders are threatening the country "a coup" in the event of that "Law on Prevention of Discrimination." However, the government is sure to adopt the law before the end of the year. Otherwise, the integration of the country with the EU might be affected.
