Rainbow NewsSt. Petersburg enacted the prohibition of "promotion of sodomy, lesbianism, bisexuality, transgender"
Author of the proposal "Never say gay" - the deputy Vitaly Milonov
29 Feb. 2012
Deputies of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg approved an amendment initiated by the party "United Russia", which introduces a ban on so-called "propaganda of homosexuality" among minors, by a majority vote. "Yes" were - 29, "No" - 5, abstained - 1. Fithteen deputies refused to vote. The law in now sent to the governor for signing.
The "United Russia" party faction in the Assebly was in full support of the law. Voting was ignored by the faction "Fair Russia" (with the exception of Deputies Anokhin, Larionov, Krivenko, Soltan - 'Yes') and the "Liberal Democratic Party." "Yabloko" voted "No" with the exception of Grigory Yavlinsky, who abstained. Communist Party supported the law of hate (except for the deputies Korovin, Komolova - they did not vote).
The Press Service of the Legislative Assembly was shamefully silent on the ballot. In its message the initiative is listed as a law prohibiting "propaganda of pedophilia." We remind that the deputies in their amendments to the Regional CAO had put sexual orientation and the crime of pedophilia in one row.
"Shame on St. Petersburg, shame on Deputies - reflects the decision of the Legislative Assembly the Leader of the Russian LGBT Network, Igor Kochetkov. - We know that most of them are well aware of the absurdity and injustice of the law. But those who voted "yes", did not vote with conscience, but on duty, because of the will of the chief. Vote with good conscience they cannot, because, for the most part, they got the parliamentary seats not by the will of the voters, but by the will of the very authorities ... ".
"... Violation of the election and the desire of the authorities whatever it takes to remain in power opens the way to milonovs - bigots and obscurants - adds Kochetkov. - After milonovs usually come fascists. Laws against gays is just the beginning, no later then tomorrow they will come for the others. Those who today applaud "the triumph of traditional values" will very soon be surprised to find themselves among the forbidden.
"Never say gay", developed by the deputy Vitaly Milonov (E-mail: vmilonov@assembly.spb.ru , page "VKontakte" , Twitter ), says - "... public actions aimed at promoting sodomy, lesbianism, bisexuality, transgenderness to minors, should be understood as purposeful activity, and uncontrolled dissemination of public information, manner, able to harm the health, moral and spiritual development of minors, including inducing distorted view of social equivalence of traditional and non-traditional marriage. "
Penalties for "homo propaganda" were set as follows: for citizens - up to 5000 rubles (170 US$, 130 Euro), officials - up to 50000 rubles (1706 US$, 1230 Euro), of legal entities - up to 500000 rubles (17060 US$, 12300 Euro). Within 10 days, the governor Poltavchenko is expected to sign the law.
It should be noted that by supporting the homophobic initiative, members of the party "United Russia" showed incredible strength, ignoring a wave of indignation that swept in response to their law-making in Western countries. Perhaps the reaction of the U.S. State Department, the governments of Great Britain, Australia, Belgium, the European Parliament, the parliaments of Berlin, Hamburg and so on, only strengthened them in their own right. Suffice it to say that yesterday in the world have been two dozen protesters at the Russian embassies and consulates. And not in the single country diplomats went out to protesters to take their opinion and signatures of citizens of foreign countries.
