Rainbow News"How do we live now?.." - questions the Week against homophobia in St. Petersburg
Postcard issued by the Russian LGBT Network to the 4th "Week"
19 Mar. 2012
The theme of the Week against Homophobia 2012 in St. Petersburg will be the problem of "the state humiliating of human dignity of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people" in Russia. For the first time the Week will take place with the regional law enacted that restricts the rights of gays and lesbians, and declares them "socially unequal citizens."
"Homophobia is illegal!" - this slogan will be the poster of the "Exit's" series of educational activities in early April. No high-profile social political "outputs" are in plans... Except, perhaps, the "Day of Silence." It will be a public action, just as the first time it was held in Russia, it will take place in the city on the Neva.
So far five actions have been planned. The principle one will be devoted to legal and public examination of the law "Do not Say Gay", signed by the governor Poltavchenko, despite the indignation of the public and governments and parliaments of the democratic countries of the world.
How to survive the politics of hatred and condemnation? How to protect yourself, your children and loved ones under the pressure of public homophobia, supported by the religious obscurantist? How to avoid becoming a victim of information hysteria, injected in the media? How not to lose your job?.. How to stay healthy?.. "... As we live now?" - This question sets the theme of the "Week" by its first event - a seminar for the LGBT community. It will be hosted by psychologist Maria Sabunaeva and lawyer Mary Kozlovskaya.
Also as part of the "Week" a Christians service is planned - by gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual. Its organizer - "Nuntiare et Recreare", the well-known association of Russian LGBT Christians. Perhaps, given the special role of the church in support of the policy of hatred against LGBT citizens of Russia, the organizers of the "Week" included cartoons on the theme "Religion and the LGBT community" and a seminar of the same name in the program. Keep track of the events of the "Week" in social networks (automated translation >>) and on the official website of the organization "Exit" .
As a side note, Moscow Week against homophobia starts this year on March 31. Its preliminary program is very energetic - it includes more than 20 events (PDF document in Russian >>).
