Rainbow NewsKostroma court discharged gay activists. Now they go to Saint-Petersburg
24 Mar. 2012
Three gay activists were discharged last Friday by Kostroma Magistrate's court. Earlier they were detained by local police after picketing near Kostroma regional Children's Library named after Arkady Gaidar. For reference: Kostroma is one of the Russian regions that adopted discriminatory anti-gay law and the so called "homopropaganda" among minors was officially banned there.
Bloggers report from Kostroma that activists were caught in front of the library by the police. A group of adolescents under the strict guidance of adults had also been out there at the scene. Gay activists were holding placards "One does not choose the sexual orientation", "Who will defend gay adolescents?!", "Straight, gay and bi is a norm!", reports RSN. The Magistrate court's decision was an unexpected surprise for the local authorities. It is most likely that they will seek to appeal this decision in a higher court.
Earlier activists of GayRussia said about their plans to organize similar picketing in the following weeks in Saint-Petersburg. They will be joined by members of LGBT movement Equal Rights.
