Rainbow NewsWeek against homophobia opened in Moscow with the ambassadors and the opposition
3 Apr. 2012
Ambassadors of foreign countries, visitors from Europe, the well-known representatives of the capital of the gay community, as well as the "radical" opposition - about two hundred people gathered in Moscow club "7FreeDays" to open the week against homophobia. Speaking figurative language, the "Rainbow Association" has prepared an excellent campaign to clean homophobic dust from the consciousness of Moscow citizens.
According to organizers, after the required official information and welcome speeches on behalf of the European LGBT groups, followed the "outrage" by Ambassadors of Norway and the Netherlands. They talked about "the introduction of the Russian laws that discriminate against LGBT people, but expressed the hope that that would accelerate the favorable resolution of the problem and compared the current experience in Russia with the past experience" of their states.
It is reported that the Week was welcomed on behalf of the party "Yabloko" by well-known Gleb Sitnikov, who had been pursuing the creation of the LGBT fraction among "Yabloko" for several years. Also mentioned is name of Igor Yasin, head of the campaign to overcome gender discrimination, "Equality March." He stated that "the attack on sexual minorities in Russia by the authorities is only one element in a series of actions that the class of corrupt officials at all levels is taking to phase out democracy and human rights." The authors report a critical moment was reached when the gathering... was greeted by poet Alina Vituhnovskaya, head of the political project "Republican alternative".
As a reminder, the Week against homophobia 2012 in Moscow will continue until April 8. Its details can be obtained on the site Moscow.Gay.Ru (automated translation).
