Rainbow NewsLGBT Column Joined "Millions' March" in Moscow
13 Jun. 2012
"Cannibals' Rule against Everyone", "Clericals' place is in the church, not in school!", "Arise ye workers from your slumbers!", "To hold a meeting - fine is 300 thousand rubles, to be true is invaluable", "Orthodox Sharia go to hell!" etc. were the slogans of LGBT activists carried along with Rainbow flags by members of the Rainbow association who joined the column of protesters during the March of the Millions on Moscow.
Owing to the efforts of the biggest union of LGBT people in Moscow, it was made possible to hold on a regular basis the organized public actions of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders with the aim to fight for free and democratic Russia. About a dozen of Rainbow flags were seen just behind the red flags of the March of the Millions...
Thunderstorm, strong wind and unbearable newly imposed fines that could easily impoverish Russian common people did not frighten those people who went out to the streets on June 12 - Russia's Day. According to different sources, 50 000 to 200 000 people have participated in the March.
"LGBT citizens today are the most active fighters for the future of our homeland. Pilferers, petty thiefs have understood that and today are trying to pressurize us by adopting gay hate laws and putting our most ardent activists behind the bars...", said leaders of the Rainbow Association on the eve of that action. They called on to every gay and lesbian to not have fear to join the Rainbow column in order to tell the authorities and the society that the number of LGBT people is big and it is growing. "We are the power and will not allow to be discriminated". This call was taken up unfortunately only by few. In LGBT group on Tverskaya there were slightly more than 30 people but, according to Rustem Adagamov, "the small column of the Rainbow association was the most bright and cheerful" (automated translation >>).
Gay.Ru is well informed that the March of the Millions was attended (but without LGBT symbols) by editors and publishers of LGBT mass-media, employees of gay entities, hundreds of other common gays and lesbians.
