Rainbow NewsChildren lodged with gays: Russia is upset with Londoners' hospitality
20 Jul. 2012
Gay hate trick of Russian Foreign Ministry officials has agitated Europe. This time Russian diplomats expressed their discontent with hospitality of UK families that lodged Russian children who had come to Great Britain to study in Summer schools with homosexual families.
The Russian Embassy in London has informed the world (automated translation here >>) about "inadmissible examples of lodging of children with homosexual families". Russian Consulate's officials believe that living with homosexual families is equal to living in "improper housing conditions", "cruel treatment" and "malnutrition". However this line of behavior and their train of thought are not a surprise - Russian diplomats recently are well-known for their gay hate being demonstrated with great pleasure in the highest international tribunes... Officials of the Russian Consulate in London say that at the present time "the children were lodged in other families that provide normal housing conditions for the minors".
The mass media explains to puzzled Britons that "to be a gay in Russian mind is equal to be a pedophile" while experts from organizations in charge of children accommodation in the UK are trying to give a response to homophobic reaction of the Russian officials. The Daily Telegraph cites Diane Law (Director of ABLS) as saying that she was really surprised with the Russian Foreign Office's view on "danger of homosexual families for the children. Often same-sex families prove to be the most hospitable". Anyway she admits that accommodating side should inform in advance the parents of a child about the family where he or she is to be lodged.
A sluggish homophobia in internal and foreign policies of Russia got acute in 2011. On June 17, 2011 Russia voted against the UN Human Rights Council Resolution on eradication of the discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation. In July 2011 Moscow has reached an agreement with Washington to impose a ban on adoption of Russian children by American same-sex couples. Anti gay feelings rose sharply inside Russia and some Russian regions adopted the legislation that prohibits the so-called "propaganda of homosexuality". On April 12, 2012 the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement which did not second the G8 Foreign Ministers Meeting Chair's Statement and its formulas of support to LGBT.
"...The Ministers reaffirmed that prohibition of discrimination on any ground, including race, color, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status, is enshrined in international human rights law. Ministers reaffirmed that human rights and fundamental freedoms are the birthright of all individuals, male and female, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender individuals. These individuals often face death, violence, harassment and discrimination because of their sexual orientation in many countries around the world. The Ministers condemn violence, harassment, and discrimination, wherever it occurs, and whoever perpetrates it, and remind all states of their obligations to promote and protect the human rights and fundamental freedoms of all individuals...
"The Russian Federation disassociates itself from this language given the absence of any explicit definition or provision relating to such a group or such persons as separate rights holders under international human rights law." - Details the official statement.
Up to now the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov together with the Head of Federation Council Valentina Matvienko are the two high ranking Russian officials who permit themselves to make gay hate statements.
