Rainbow NewsMurmansk gets a House of Equality

The opening of the "Equality House" in late September in Murmansk marked another stage of work for LGBT rights in Russia.
According to the "Russian LGBT Network", "the center Equality House was created with the goal of providing phychological help, educational, cultural and sports activities, as well as consolidating the community." Visitors are welcome on weekday evenings and full days on weekends.
This is the heartwarming event in the LGBT community of the city of Murmansk known for excellent traditions of building gay organizations. In Murmansk the regional public organization Krug was registered in 1999. And back in 1998 first attempts of working with gays and lesbian were made.
In 2005 in his interview to gay.ru, one of the leaders of the Murmansk activists called Murmansk a frozen city. "Everything is tight and hard, just as in hibernation... Gays are under pressure." Let's wish this nothern town to warm up to people without regards to their sexual orientation.
