Rainbow NewsNationalists attacked gay club in Moscow on the Coming out day
12 Oct. 2012
15 to 20 people wearing masks broke into the club "7freedays" in the center of Moscow on the 11th of October. There was a party that day dedicated to the Day of coming out which is a national holiday in a number of countries.
Most victims are ladies who organized the event as well as human rights activists. The police arrived too late to stop the criminals. "20 jerks wearing masks were kicking the girls. My friend has a lot of hematomas the other girl has a piece of her glasses in the eye', says the witness @silupin in Twitter. Journalist Eugeniya Kostyuchenko publishes the photos in Instagram.
Accorfing to "Nezavisimaya gazeta" the criminals were screaming: "Did you want a fight? Here it ñomes!" The guests of the club were pushed on the floor and beaten with legs. In a few minutes the attackers ran away. Three victims were taken by the ambulance, - journalists say.
The criminals were young people in dark clothing, the heads of many were shaved, - say the police. "Many people were hurt" - quotes the authorities online resource Lifenews.ru. One of the victims was transported to Sklifosovsky Emergency Medicine Institute with acid burns on his skin.
The party had been announced in advance. It was planned to start at 7 pm and have a lot of games, a rock concert and a photo show of Yulia Malygina (she now publishes photos of that evening in her blog), a free microphone at the show. There had been many parties of this kind during the last two years. It's been around two years that this friendly platform provides a place for the projects of the "Rainbow association".
Representatives of the "Russian LGTB network" have declared that they are willing to provide all necessary legal help to the victims who wish to report to the police. "No doubt that it was a homophobic hate crime. We demand from the authorities to conduct a complete investigation and prosecution of the guilty, - says Igor Kochetkov, the head of the "LGTB network".
One of the first to condemn the attack were the representatives of the civil opposition. "We are determined to bring maximum publicity to the incident. The regime uses homophobia and other prejudice for persecution and attempts to split the protest movement, having the ultras as assistance with ideas and actions for that. The protest movement cannot be two ways about it..." - reads a joint statement by Igor Yasin, Eugene Otto and Elena Volkova (the "Committee for a Workers' International").
Previously gay clubs in Moscow had been attacked 7 years ago. A series of assaults were carried out by unknown in 2005-2006. On the 27th of May, 2006 gay club "Three monkeys" had to cancel the show, while a crowd of nationalists was withheld by the police chain.
It is worth to remind that 3 days ago leaders of nationalistic and orthodox christian organizations demanded all gay clubs closed in Moscow. They were supported by representatives of Russian orthodox church and a few deputies of the city parliament.
