Rainbow NewsRussian Culture Minister on gay issue: "It should neither be shown nor discussed... Period"
5 Mar. 2013
Vladimir Medinskiy, the Russian Minister for Culture, said (about the gay hate laws that were being adopted across Russia) that "there were nothing but a menacing title". At the same time he stressed that according to his opinion "an absolute veto on discussion of an issue of anyone's sexual preference should be imposed in Russia". "You wish to discuss the same-sex marriage issue? I will not please you talking about it. Personally I believe that anyone's sexual preference is his(her) private business. It should neither be shown nor discussed: neither on TV nor in the Parliament nor on a half-million peoples' rally. It is a private theme. Privacy. Period".
Mr.Medinskiy is a former member of the United Russia party. In his interview for the Lenta project he said that Europe was split by the issue of same-sex marriages and moreover he refused to discuss the human right issue for LGBT people with the journalists.
For reference: After he was nominated by the Kremlin as the new minister for culture in Russia a number of scandals broke up across the cultural space of the Russian Federation: some prominent culture workers were accused in making the so-called "homopropaganda".
Apropos: In his "history" novel "The Wall" (Stena) that was published in 2012 he disgustingly depicted homosexuals. But, we have to note, that in 2004 Mr.Medinskiy was one among a small number of deputies of the United Russia party who voted against re-criminalization of gay sex. The majority of his co-party members ("edinoross"es) then refused to show their position on that issue.
