Rainbow NewsRussian State Duma to Ban Justification and Acceptance of Homosexuality
27 Apr. 2013
Very soon the Russian Parliament will introduce a total ban on justification and acceptance of homosexuality instead of the earlier announced ban on propaganda of homosexuality. There are new amendments to the homophobic initiative which was unanimously approved by the Gosduma in January this year.
Draconian fines up to half a million of Russian rubles ($16,100 US) are being introduced by the State Duma deputies who believe these measures would protect some "traditions" of the Russian society. "The actions aimed at shaping of a distorted apprehension by minors of social equality of traditional and non-traditional matrimonial ties" will be punished.
Constitutional rights and freedoms of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transsexuals will be limited in part of "dissemination of the information by any public mean". Kommersant-daily reports, relevant amendments were approved today by the State Duma's Committee on Family, Women and Children Affairs. The voting on that law is scheduled on May 25. Gay-hate lobbyists plan to put that norm in effect on the International Children's Day.
Elena Mizulina (her Twitter account in Russian and the official e-mail: mizulina@duma.gov.ru), the main lobbyist of the laws that violate and limit LGBT rights, noted it was "a draft version of these proposals". At the same time she ruled out the possibility of rejection of that law.
Local experts and mass-media say these amendments "are tougher" and note that Russian LGBT community in fact is being equated to "terrorists". Foreign mass-media did not keep silent about the fact that campaign on violation of LGBT rights was being unveiled together with Vladimir Putin's statements, done during his visit to Amsterdam, about absence in Russia of any kind of discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation. Meanwhile, Putin has also aired his initiative to prohibit adoption of Russian children by same-sex couples.
