29 Jul. 2013
Joining the Russian team at the World OutGames in Antwerp, Belgium are more than 70 athletes, according to the Russia LGBT Sport Federation, and will be competing in 11 different sport categories in total. The competitions begin on July 31 and end on August 11, 2013.
For the first time in the 3 year history of the World OutGames, a team of Russian athletes, prepared by the Russia LGBT Sport Federation, will participate. Similar to the Olympics, this sporting event is held every four years. This year, more than 8000 athletes from 104 countries will gather in the Belgian city of Antwerp. Most of the competitors are non-professional athletes. The motto of the World OutGames this year is "Love United."
Russians have already begun arriving in Antwerp. This is a close-knit team of OutGames hopefuls with ages ranging from 20 to 50 years and representing 16 cities from around Russia. In just the category of volleyball, two all-male and one all-female volleyball teams will represent our country. A total of eight Russian athletes will compete for medals in badminton. And, for the first time, representatives of Russia will perform in the Male Couples category of the ballroom dance competition.
Detailed information about the success of the Russians at the games will appear daily on a dedicated page on the social network "VKontakte" (in Russian).
In the meantime, here is a short promotional video about the competition...
