Rainbow NewsSuccess! Russia Won 23 Medals at OutGames in Antwerp
10 Aug. 2013
The day before the grand final of the OutGames in Antwerp (Belgium), one can say about the evident progress of the Russian team. More than 70 sportsmen and sportswomen from Russia with the support of the LGBT Sports Federation went to Belgium and competed in 11 kinds of sport. Russian team has won 23 medals (11 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze). Viktor Romanov, one of the leaders of the LGBT Sports Federation, assessed that "storm of medals" as a success.
Today few more medals were added to the score of the Russian team. Ms. Margarita P. from Saint-Petersburg "our queen of track and field athletics" during the last day of the tournament has managed to win 3 gold and one silver medals in running. As a result she became the six-time winner of the OutGames!
Mr. Igor S. from Moscow, winner of the Eurogames in Budapest,in Antwerp was the highest in jumping. Mr. Alexander V. from Saint-Petersburg won the silver medal in 100 meter running.
Ms.Marina K. from Moscow has added her gold medal in badminton to the golden constellation of the Russian team in the OutGames.
Team sports have also pleased us. Some years ago Russian LGBT sportswomen and sportsmen could not boast with their success there. Now our volleyball team played a success: it has won the gold, silver and bronze. "A-MEGA" women volleyball team from Saint-Petersburg has also won golden and silver medals. The Russian Federation of the LGBT Sports believes that men volleyball "Team Russia" team of players from Moscow and Saint-Petersburg showed its best in a hard and resistant tournament guys have managed to show their character and took the third place in the C type.
"Matryoshki" men team from Moscow was also worthy of the success. Guys in B type has won 5th place and we hope that in the nearest future they will show better results!
Starting from Monday Russian sportswomen and sportsmen are going back home. Due to the threat of persecution, discrimination, violence, discharge and even relatives' inadequate reaction, www.gay.ru has to hid the winners' full names.
And now we recall in this movie clip the opening ceremony of the OutGames that took place on July 31, 2013. A photo report of that ceremony was also uploaded by Yury Gavrikov, participant of the OutGames and LGBT activist from Saint-Petersburg, to his social network page.
