Rainbow NewsOlympic champion Greg Louganis to play tennis at the First Russian LGBT-open games
22 Feb. 2014
It has become public yesterday that Greg Louganis, a four-time Olympic champion and one of the brightest athletes in the world history of diving, is coming to the First Russian Open LGBT Games in Moscow. He will participate in the competition - this time in table tennis. He had taked a few lessons from the Olympic champion American figure skater Michelle Kwan. Greg Louganis revealed this at the Games's official Facebook page immediately after he received a Russian visa.
This news was also posted on his personal page, that is urging subscribers to support both Russian LGBT open game and gays and lesbians themselves, who, he notes, Russia rejects to notice at the least.
"Please to all my friends, straight, gay it does't matter! Please go to Russian Open Games and like their page and send messages of love and support to those living in such oppressive conditions, just for being who they are... "- quoted Louganis's plea the official website of LGBT games.
"... Please send messages of support, from where ever you live! I want to give them as much encouragement as I can during the short time I am there. I asked Konstantin Yablotskiy (one of the leaders of the "Federation of LGBT sport" - Gay.Ru) to enter me in the table tennis, Michelle Kwan taught me a few things on our cruise, but I am sure I will be eliminated early on, but it is about FUN! I want and I want for them to have a BLAST! This will mean SO much to this group! You have to understand all money they raise comes from outside there country and a country who believes they are less than. I believe in them because I believe in love! Namaste, Greg" - writes Greg Louganis.
He is arriving in Russia on Tuesday February 25, to take part in the opening ceremony of the First Russian LGBT open games the very next day.
