Rainbow NewsJulianne Moore Welcomed Participants of First Russian Open Games Mined at Its First Day
27 Feb. 2014
Julianne Moore, an actress, well-known for her support of LGBT fight for equal rights and who was filmed in many movies that raised actual issues from the life of LGBT community, wished good luck to the First Russian Open LGBT games which were opened yesterday in Moscow despite the threats from religious extremists and nationalists. In particular, Games' organizers informed the foreign mass-media that on the verge of its opening ceremony in one of Moscow's gay clubs a number of threats to blow up the club were received. But it did not stop gay activists and Guest of Honor - Greg Luganis to proceed... In order to maintain security for Games' participants additional forces were called. A team of lawyers closely monitors the situation.
"Yes, there were problems. It was easy to predict many of them and - what’s for to keep silence? - it wasn’t easy to get over them. Nevertheless, with all our solidarity, devotion to our common goal and friendship we faced the challenges and successfully left all the difficulties behind us opening the first Russian Open LGBT-Games!", proudly declare its organizers on the event's official Internet site.
The Opening Ceremony was attended by sports people from many countries and Russian regions. Konstantin Yablotskij, President of the Russian LGBT Sports Federation, Elvina Yuvakaeva, Chairwoman of the Games Organizing Committee and famous athlete Greg Luganis addressed their welcoming speeches to the audience. Julianne Moor's short video address which she had specially made for the Russian Open Games was a real surprise that touched the hearts of Games' participants.
"Now our experience is even bigger and we have more friends than ever! It was really good to see happy faces during the Opening Ceremony and during the participants' registration! We will always be grateful to everyone who has joined us today and to those who will come to see and participate in the sports scene on Friday, Saturday and Sunday!".
