Rainbow News2nd Open LGBT Volleyball Tournament Results: "Matreshka Cup" stays in Moscow
8 Nov. 2014
As we've informed you earlier, the "Matreshka Cup" - the Second Moscow Open Volleyball Tournament organized by the "Federation of LGBT Sports", took place in Moscow in the first days of November. 66 athletes from Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Arkhangelsk, Murmansk, Smolensk and Tula competed for medals, cups and individual prizes.
The opening ceremony created a general atmosphere of this sports LGBT event. Athletes' teams' entry and formation was accompanied by a solemn music. Members of the Organizing Committee and a representative of the Federation of LGBT Sports welcomed participants and guests of that event and read aloud the address of the Federation's President.
After the opening ceremony started the tournament. Two playgrounds, the support of fans and rhythmic music from loud-speakers attached dynamism and drive to the event. 10 teams (5 teams of men and 5 teams of women) was supplemented with another team of individual participants.
Women's teams hold a special tournament in which "Nika" (saint-Petersburg) led the way. Two C-level teams were united in tournament's schedule with B-level teams but scored individually. The 1st place among C-level teams was given to "Moscow Boys" (Moscow) which narrowly (score 2:1) won and defeated the team of individuals "Hip-Hop Moscow". A hard competition unveiled between B-level teams "Matreshka Virgin" (Moscow) and "Piter Team" (Saint-Petersburg, Murmansk, Smolensk) whose play decorated the tournament. This time a team from Moscow rematch a year-ago defeat. B-level cup stays in Moscow.
During the rewarding ceremony the winners were given memory cups in form of matreshka. Attention was also attracted to medals of queer vivid style. A pleasure was extended in the gifts to every athlete of the winner-teams and in prizes given to the best sportsmen and sportswomen.
Notwithstanding the idea of competition, the atmosphere during the tournament was friendly and warm. Athletes who participated in other events organized by the Federation of LGBT Sports have met their friends again and extended hearty felicitations to each other. The presence of new teams, athletes and big number of fans brought an air of joy and festivity.
Dear friends, thanks for participation, support and solidarity! We thank you for positive emotions that you've brought to the tournament! See you next year on the Third Moscow Open Volleyball Tournament "Matreshka Cup 2015"!
