Rainbow NewsSingle pickets in Saint Petersburg to support LGBT teenagers
17 Apr. 2015
A series of single-person pickets are planned for today's evening by the "Alliance of the heterosexuals for equality for LGBT", attributed to the Day of Silence. Protesting agaist hushing up of LGBT problems, activists will be standing at Nevskiy prospekt in Saint Petersburg with the posters in their hands and their mouths crossed with adhesive tape. This year the Alliance activists draw attention to the crysis with the project "Children 404".
"In general, the very existence of homosexual and transgender children and teenagers is ignored, their troubles are hushed up in Russia. The law against 'propaganda of non-traditional relationship' made the problems of the 'invisible citizens' impossible to discuss. They are deprived of necessary information and support from adults" - sais the Alliance's statement distributed yesterday.
The Day of Silence is an annual international event that was first performed in 1996 in the US and then later supported in other countries. Thousands of people participate in it around the world in order to draw attention to to the problem of discrimination, homophobia and violence towards lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual citizens.
