The Russian Orthodox Synod is ireful for the decision of the Supreme Court of the USA on Marriage Equality cause it sees a threat for Russia behind it. According to archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, thus (they) want to "take away the soul from Russian people, strip it of the possibility to build the life of the society and the state according to the eternal and unchangeable, given by the Lord, moral laws".
The Russian news agency "Interfax" is citing (automated translation >>) 47-year old Vsevolod Chaplin, Chairperson of the Russian Orthodox Synod's Department for Church liaison with the State, as saying, that one should pay attention to the nature of values that "someone is trying to introduce to us along with the American models of social and state systems". The ideals of marriage equality are assessed by the Russian Church as "unnatural and post-human". "The marriage has certain character, it is created by the will of God, first of all not as a legal space for realization of human rights and freedoms but as a place where a man and a woman in a union based on love give birth to children and bring them up".
For reference: The US Supreme Court legalized same sex marriages across the nation on June 26th, 2015. This judgement caused hysteria among the Russian homophobic politicians.
The Russian Church consecutively opposes the Marriage Equality anywhere around the globe and especially in Russia. High-ranking Russian Church officials repeatedly insulted LGBT citizens, demanded to limit their constitutional rights and freedoms. In the middle of June 2015 in Brussels the Russian Church's representative termed same-sex marriages as "the profanation of God's image in a human". In May 2015 a 68 year old Russian Patriarch Cyril (secular name Vladimir Gundyaev) came down heavily on same-sex marriages that "shock people". He believes that these marriages of people of the same sex have become the main cause of "widening gap" between Christian Churches.
